Construction Accountant

JOB SUMMARY
The Construction Accountant embraces SoLa’s mission and is passionate about promoting SoLa’s short and long-term goals. Responsible for working with Construction Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work closely with project managers on contract commitment, change requests, budget revisions, change orders, anticipated costs, and budget variance reports to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
  • Track preliminary notices and conditional waivers
  • Ensure contractor insurance is in compliance
  • Participate in meetings with architects, general contractors, and lenders as needed
  • Review monthly construction pay application and supporting documents
  • Assemble soft costs and submit final draw for equity funding or loan draw
  • Record project invoices by job, cost category, and draw number
  • Initiate the payment process
  • Reconcile job costs report to CIP GL accounts
  • Monitor buyout, percentage of completion, contingency, and retention
  • Organize and upload documents
  • Perform project month-end close
  • Close out completed projects
  • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ ground-up construction accounting experience required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and to adapt to a fast-changing environment
  • Well-developed time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Working knowledge of computers and their applications
  • Proficient in Excel; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Yardi software preferred

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, talk, hear, walk, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone, handle, feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
